Adamu Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has revealed that his father will contest again for president in 2023.

Atiku Abubakar has been running for the highest office in Nigeria since 1993.

He was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019, losing to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Adamu made the declaration while presenting his scorecard as the commissioner for works and energy in Adamawa state on Ahmadu Finitiri’s first anniversary as governor, the Punch reports.

According to him, his father has remained a master politician and there is nothing wrong if he contests again.

He said;

Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with my father contesting for the presidency. In 2023, my father will be aspiring to the number one office in the land because he has been an astute, strategic, master politician for almost four decades.

Adamu added that he joined politics late as a result of the advice from his father, who asked him to spend more time in the private sector to gather enough experience that would be crucial for him in public life.

He stated;

I am basically here to serve my people; if I am called by the people back home to run for the senate, I don’t see anything wrong with that.

Atiku had challenged Buhari’s victory after the 2019 election, but the supreme court dismissed case.

The judgement brought an end to an eight-month long legal battle since February’s polls when Buhari won a second term with 56 percent of the vote.

Atiku came in second with 41 percent, tagging the result a ‘sham’ and accused opposition of vote-rigging.

His party lodged a legal challenge against the result, which was rejected by an election tribunal in September.
