Your End Will Come Too – Fayose Slams Obasanjo For Comments On Kashamu’s Death
A former governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, has slammed one-time president, Olusegun Obasanjo for speaking ill of late Senator Buruji Kashamu in his condolence message.
The former lawmaker, a controversial politician who for years was wanted by the United States government for alleged drug offences but managed to beat repeated extradition attempts, died in Lagos on Saturday from coronavirus complications.

Obasanjo in his condolence message of the late lawmaker said Kashamu used the instruments of law and politics to evade justice on alleged criminal offences but could not use same tactics to escape death.
The message titled ‘Letter of condolence,’ reads;
I received the sad news of the demise of Senator Esho Jinadu (Buruji Kashamu), a significant citizen of Ogun State. Please accept my condolences and that of my family on this irreparable loss.
The life and history of the departed have lessons for those of us on this side of the veil. Senator Esho Jinadu (Buruji Kashamu) in his lifetime used the manoeuvre of law and politics to escape from facing justice on alleged criminal offence in Nigeria and outside Nigeria.
But no legal, political, cultural, social or even medical manoeuver could stop the cold hand of death when the creator of all of us decides that the time is up.
May Allah forgive his sins and accept his soul into Aljanah, and may God grant his family and friends fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Reacting to this, Fayose alleged that Obasanjo has no right to speak bad-mouth the late senator over some of his controversial activities become he was one of his accomplices.
The former Ekiti governor said that it is regrettable that Obasanjo is speaking ill of the deceased lawmaker at a time when he is no longer alive.
He said;
I also condemn the statement made by former President Obasanjo on his (Kashamu) death. It is regrettable that Obasanjo could say what he said about Buruji Kashamu after his death and when he can no longer question him. Why didn’t he say that when Kashamu was alive?.
Fayose further asked if Obasanjo;
Can say in good conscience that he did not at some point collaborated with Kashamu and most of the things he (Kashamu) did politically were not with his collaboration?
The former Governor stressed;
Nigerians will watch out for Obasanjo’s own end. He should stop forming saint because he is not. He should also remember that his own end will come too and nobody knows how the end will be.
The feud between Obasanjo and Kashamu over the leadership of the PDP in the South West was quite pronounced in 2013 when Obasanjo criticised the PDP leadership for retaining Kashamu as a leader of the party in the region.
He described the deceased as a drug baron who bought candidates, parties and eventually bought power to become a politician.
Shortly afterwards, Kashamu filed a N20 billion libel suit against the former president, which he did not withdraw until 2015.
Many other Nigerians have expressed their varying opinions about Obasanjo’s condolence message through social media.

What Chief Olusegun Obasanjo said about Buruji Kashamu is absolutely the truth and it’s same for most corrupt Nigerian politicians.
Many of them used and maneuver of law and politics to escape from facing justice on alleged criminal offences, but they would not escape death.

Dear Chief Obasanjo, that was irresponsible of you sir.

Another episode of hypocrisy when people die. I don’t know why Obasanjo is getting backlash, esp as he has always been a cold hearted unforgiving blunt man. May Kashamu RIP. But his death doesn’t change that he was a fugitive. Live well so people don’t have to lie when you die. pic.twitter.com/gx5atiHbra

There is a time that one should sheath his/her sword no matter what is the level of animosity. That Obasanjo’s condolence letter to the family of @BurujiKashamu is a low even for Obasanjo’s low standard.

Nigerians love to idolize corrupt leaders and people with questionable character because they are rich.. let us call a spade a spade buruji kashamu was very dirty and corrupt and obasanjo even said how he maneuverd the law in his favor to protect himself.. Nigerians pls be wise pic.twitter.com/0wivAUETon

Hmmm. This supposed Obasanjo letter. I thought that our culture is that every fight ends once one of the parties die? Or is it only in my area?
— Dr. Joe Abah (@DrJoeAbah) August 9, 2020
If Obasanjo truly wrote that letter, that’s him expressing what he feels about Buruji Kashamu. We don’t always have to force people to feel what they don’t feel about the dead.

Let’s wait and see whether President Obasanjo can or would be able to cheat death. Twitter would never forget this date and statement. The Twitter folks will remind his family.

Obasanjo never called himself a saint. He only reminded the evil doers, the corrupt politicians, the oppressors of the poor, and all who used or use either the instrument of state or instrument of wealth to pervert earthly justice, that NONE will escape the ultimate judge.

Obasanjo, burnt kettle calling pot black.
Man that leveled the entire community of Odi town in Bayelsa, planned Charles Taylors escape route from 9na only to back stab him when America threatened his ambition of AU presidency.

Baba should not forget that he too tried to manouver the law through the national assembly to get third term but for the mercy God he was not succeeded. None of you politicians is a saint
Truth is bitter.It’s time we brace up and accept the truth. Say it the way it is and leave it to God. Obasanjo is simply reminding me and you that there is God the greatest arbiter. You can cheat men but not God.
