Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has denied reports that it has hiked electricity tariff by 50 per cent.

The commission, however, admitted in a statement on Tuesday afternoon that a tariff hike ought to have taken place on January 1, 2020.

It noted that the tariff for customers on service bands D and E served with less than 12hours power supply per day over a period of one month remained frozen in compliance with a Federal Government directive.

NERC said;

In compliance with the provision of the EPSR Act and the nation tariff methodology for biannual minor review the rate of service bands are adjusted from N2.00 to N4.00 per KWHR.

The Commission promised to remain committed to delivering good service to its customers and also urged customers who are affected with any strange charges should aptly report for review.

NERC advised any customer that has been impacted by any rate increase beyond the above provision of the tariff order should report to the commission at customer.complaints@nerc.gov.ng.
