Police confirm abduction of 317 students of govt girls secondary school in ZamfaraZamfara Police Commissioner, Abutu Yaro has disclosed that about 317 girls were abducted from Government Girls Science Secondary School in Jangebe, Zamfara State by unknown gunmen in the early hours of today February 26.

MDB earlier reported how armed men invaded the school in the wee hours of the day, abducting the students.

Yaro has now said a joint search and rescue operation is already underway with a view to rescuing the over 300 students kidnapped by the gunmen.

The police commissioner also disclosed that the Force Commander of Operations Hadarin Daji, Major General Aminu Bande, Brigade Commander 1 Brigade, Nigeria Army Gusau, and other state government officials led a heavily armed re-enforcement team to Jangebe to complement the ongoing rescue operation in the locations.

He appealed to everyone to be calm as joint efforts of the police and other security agencies will surely lead to a successful rescue of the students.

Meanwhile, journalists covering the recent abduction of scores of schoolgirls in Jangebe have been attacked by angry youths in the community.

The journalists attacked are correspondents of Thunder Blowers Multi Media services, Daily Trust, Channels TV, TVC and News Agency of Nigeria.

It was gathered that the journalists were attacked by youths in Jangebe communities as part of their demonstration of anger because of the abduction.

Some photos of the incident show how the angry youth smashed one of the official vehicles belonging to Thunder Blowers while one of the reporters sustained injuries on his head.
