Interpol Arrested Sunday Igboho, Wife In Cotonou – Lawyer
Igboho’s lawyer stated this in a statement on Tuesday hours after the Yoruba nation freedom fighter was arrested in an airport in Cotonou while allegedly making moves to fly to an European country.
According to the statement, the wanted agitator was arrested alongside his wife, who is a German citizen.
The counsel revealed that the arrest was in collaboration with the Federal Government.
He appealed to the German Government and other the international community “to rise up and curb the impunity of the Nigerian Government by refusing any application for extradition of our Client who already has application before the International Criminal Court duly acknowledged”.
Igboho was reportedly arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic on Monday night while attempting to flee to Germany.
Recall that Department of State Services (DSS) raided the residence of Igboho in Ibadan, Oyo state on July 1, killing two people, arresting 12 aides but Igboho escaped.
Igboho had planned a ”Yoruba nation rally” in Lagos two days before the raid. The rally was initially suspended but later held with a large number of Yoruba nation agitators demanding for freedom.
Afterwards, DSS declared Igboho wanted, alleging that he was stockpiling weapons and ammunitions.
DSS Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunnaya, had advised Igboho to turn himself in to the nearest security.
